I was interviewed over at Striving to Serve at Home for her recurring column, “Entrepreneurial Endeavors”, which highlights stay at home daughters and their home businesses. Go check it out!
I had a lot of fun coming up with this idea for Miss Meredith Alexander’s blog. She was such a joy to work with and I’m thrilled with how it turned out!
Sarah Mae from Like A Warm Cup of Coffee is co-hosting this Christian women’s blogging conference in October 2010, and I was so glad to get the opportunity to work on the website! The design turned out quite lovely and feminine, don’t you think?

Oh my. How I’ve neglected my blog. It’s been five months since I last updated. Well, I’ve revamped the design and my website will soon follow suit, I’m ready for a de-cluttering. Moving back toward simplicity. I’m horrendously fickle when it comes to redesigning my own sites, I have probably re-done it twelve times. Which is why I decided to stick to something more simple, so changing it won’t be quite as complicated.
Well, let’s see… what’s happened since I last posted? I’ve been very busy with my family, my church, College Plus, and my part-time job. I’m a very optimistic person by nature, so I rarely have any reason to say anything other than I love life!
I’m halfway into my sophomore year of college, technically, and I’ve only been a College Plus student since July! I just love this program, it’s saved me so much time and money, and my coach is so sweet and helpful!
I still work at ‘Thimbles’ on the weekends, and I love it. It’s just so much fun to be around beautiful fabric all day – I get so many great ideas! Too many great ideas actually, I can’t sew fast enough to make everything I want to make! Plus, since I’ve gotten so busy, sewing is something I can only do every once in a while, but I love to do it. On the back burner right now I have a quilt, a top for myself, a dress for a little baby friend of mine, a scarf I’m knitting, a sweater I’m knitting, and boxes and boxes of fabric leftover that I haven’t decided how to use!
I have a few more things I need to get done, and then I need to get off of this computer for a while so I’ll go ahead and wrap this up for now.
If anybody is still reading this blog, God bless you!

You may have assumed I was dead. Perhaps, you thought my computer had been smashed or I had forgotten how to use the internet. Obviously, none of these things are true. I know this is a dumb, overused excuse, but the truth of the matter is, I’ve been busy. Very busy. And Facebook is just so much more convenient. It’s terrible really. Is it just me, or is our culture getting lazy? Instead of creating thought provoking articles, and writing witty posts, we simply explain what we are doing in 140 characters or less.
This has not been the sole accessory in my blogging demise. I laugh at a time when I said that my life was boring. Here’s what’s been happening since I’ve been gone! (In no particular order…)
1. I finally finished updating my website! *gasp!*
2. I earned 9 credits towards my English degree with College Plus. Studying takes up a LARGE chunk of my life nowadays.
3. I’ve gotten several blog designs underway. I can’t wait to finish them!
4. I spent days oohing and ahhing at the new fall and winter fabrics we’ve gotten in at ‘Thimbles,’ the little sewing shop where I work. Working also takes up a large chunk of my life.
5. I went ice-skating. Twice. The second time I fell on my head.
6. I found a really neat book at a yard sale: “Health Work for Girls: Household Hygiene, Personal Hygiene, and Home Care of the Sick” from 1926. So very interesting!
7. I made two matching dresses for my little sisters.
8. I bought an authentic 1943 Women’s Drill Coat from WWII. It’s pretty. And neat.
9. I’ve gotten rather far on knitting a green sweater for myself.
10. I was weak, and gave in to my urge to buy some beautiful fall fabric at Thimbles to match said green sweater for myself.
11. I learned how to play ‘Dutch Blitz.’
12. I ran a very successful garage sale. Well, sort of successful. We sure had a lot of junk left over.
13. I finished a baby quilt, a baby blanket, a stuffed animal, and a tag blanket for friends of mine who are expecting/just had their baby.
14. I got my very first taste of honey made by my very own hardworking honeybees.
15. I went a little overboard at the library, and checked out 17 books at once. They’re due back next week. I’ve read two of them.
16. I’ve been thinking hard and planning potential Christmas gift for family and friends.
17. I ate the best Italian food on the planet while listening to an accordion playing in my ear, and laughed at boisterous waiters who danced, and sang in Italian.
18. I’ve gotten hooked on Frappuccinos. If you try to tell me how many calories are in those things, I will plug my ears and say “la, la, la, la, la.”
19. I’ve become obsessed with vintage clothing. Oh, yeah. I was already obsessed with vintage clothing.
20. I’ve been planning a few surprises!
I would say that I will be sure to post more often from now on, but as soon as I say that, I won’t blog for months. So, I refuse to make any kind of commitment. But, I will try.
If I can convince my sweet sister to send me the pictures she took, I’ll post pictures of the projects I mentioned above.
Until next time,
Katie
I’m leaving for Oregon in less than a week! I’ll be attending the wedding of Michael and Evie, who are very good friends of mine. I’ve just finished the embroidery on a tablecloth I’ve made for Evie, and now I’ll just need to spend a marathon sewing hour at Nana’s while she helps me finish the edges. It will probably happen tonight or tomorrow.

In addition to the lovely little blue swirl flowers, I embroidered two scripture verses: Psalm 28:7 and Psalm 27:1. The lettering isn’t the most beautiful thing in the world, since I do spend too much time on the lazy-daisy stitches and less on the planning of the lettering, but I think that the end result is rather charming. I like the way all of the letters are different and random. It’s very unique, to say the least.
In addition to the tablecloth, I’ll finally get to give away the beautiful little marriage notecard I’ve had for three years! I’ve been wondering who would be the perfect recipient, and now I finally have one! In the note, I’ll say something to the effect of, “The Bible tells us to write Scripture ‘on the posts of thy house, and on thy gates’, so I thought, having verses on a tablecloth would be even better…” Eh, I haven’t really nailed down the wording. I’ll do that soon.
In addition to that project (which, once I finish up the edges, iron it repeatedly, check three more times for any stains or marks, fold it up and wrap it, I can check off of my list) I’m also about to start working on a little project for my darling sister, whose 8th birthday is rapidly approaching.

I found this fabric at Thimbles (a little sewing shop where I work) and the minute I saw it I thought – “This looks just like Abby!” I bought a yard of it (with my 20% employee discount
) and now I think I’ve decided that I’ll make a skirt out of it. More of a pencil skirt, since I do only have a yard. In fact, she already owns a skirt that is almost exactly like the one I’m envisioning, so I’m going to measure it and create a pattern from it. I’ll keep you updated!
These are just two of the MANY projects that I always have going. I’m choosing to post about them because, first of all, I know that my little sister doesn’t read my blog, or any blogs for that matter, and I also know that Evie doesn’t read my blog. If, in the unlikely case, she does read this little blog of mine, I know from her facebook that she is SO busy right now, she’ll have absolutely no time to be reading anything between now and the wedding.
So, for my blog readers, enjoy! And, for those who know the above mentioned recipients of these gifts, let’s keep these surprises on the down-low. Thank you. ![]()
Stay tuned – I’ll be blogging my whole trip to Oregon starting next week!
We got a new white kitten yesterday, from our dear Pastor’s family.

His name is Buttermilk! Isn’t that sweet? The name was a result of many hours of deliberation and voting. Nothing is simple when you live in a house with 8 people.
He slept in mine and my sister’s room last night, and it went well, except for about 3am, when he decided to attack all things with his claws and teeth. He eventually settled down.
Noah agrees! This new addition to our family is so much fun!

He even puts up with being poked, prodded, smothered, and squeezed. Which is always a good quality to have when entering our household…
During a very poor housing market, one would think it unwise to be moving anywhere. In the blogosphere, however, it’s quite different.
For one thing, the only packing that is required involves clicking “export” and downloading a file, logging on to the new blog and clicking “import.” It’s legions easier than going through and putting all of your worldly possessions into cardboard boxes, marking “FRAGILE” on the more breakable items, and driving them, sometimes cross-country, in the back of a moving van, where you arrive to find that your priceless china set has been obliterated. Blog posts aren’t that breakable. Neither are comments.
I’ve decided to move my blog over to the same server as my website, http://www.flibbypiedesign.net/. My blog is now, www.flibbypiedesign.net/blog. Easy enough, right?
I also have a new email address, katie@flibbypiedesign.net. Which will eventually take the place of my flibbypie at yahoo.com address. But I’m still working out the kinks… As of now, I can receive email, but I can’t send email. I’m working on it.
So here I am! Thanks for visiting me at my new blog!
